Mike Horne

Mike acted as Secretary of the 5AT Group until its suspension in 2012, since when he has taken on the role of Secretary of the AST Group.

Mike served a three year full-time apprenticeship at RAF Halton, training as an aircraft electronic instrument fitter.  He then worked on Vulcan, Nimrod, Canberra and HS125 aircraft for 12 years.

Following retirement from the RAF, Mike joined a multinational company in the office equipment industry, becoming the European Technical Services Manager running the department responsible for product introduction and support to 19 Offices in Europe, Russia, South Africa and UAE for a wide range of products.

Mike is currently involved in voluntary work on the railway at the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester (MOSI) undertaking various engineering works and where he regularly fires the replica of Stephenson’s locomotive Planet (see photo at right).

Mike lives in Southport in northwest England.
