Hello, all. I thought it would be useful to have a topic dedicated to steam locomotive/railway reference material, with links included. So, as my contribution-
http://www.railway-technical.com/ A general, modern reference site- better than wikipedia, at least.
http://catskillarchive.com/rrextra/Page0002.Html An old, but good, site- complete with a quite detailed manual for operating steam locomotives from the turn of the century.
http://www.rpca.com/webpages/resourcelibrary.htm A site for operators of private passenger cars in the USA, it has some quite good steam locomotive reference material to go along with the passenger car/airbrake material as well.
http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/manual/manual.html All the diesel locomotive operating and maintenence manuals that you will ever want or need- at least, from the USA, it even includes the exotics like the German-made diesel hydraulics used by the SP and D&RGW.
http://www.rgusrail.com/manuals.html More manuals, including steam locomotive ones.
http://www.railarchive.net/firing/ A rather good rail archive, with the link directly to a 1944 course on how to fire an american steam locomotive, with such oddities as the ashpan washer and water scoop included. And a plain PDF version
Interesting selection of manuals, papers and books there including Goss’s book from 1906.
